Synopsis: | This training program is designed to provide individuals with an nuanced understanding of addiction that goes beyond the surface. By addressing the various layers that contribute to the complexity of addiction, this training aims to equip participants with the knowledge and insight necessary to effectively support individuals struggling with addiction.
Learning Objectives:
- Gain a multidimensional understanding of addiction, including its biological, psychological, social, and environmental determinants.
- Challenge stereotypes and stigmas surrounding addiction, promoting empathy and compassion towards individuals struggling with addictions.
- Understand the correlation between addiction and mental health in individuals
Key Training Components:- Understanding the neurobiology of addiction
- Roles of social, environmental, psychological factors on developing addiction
- Shame and stigma of addiction
- Understanding the family dynamics of addiction
- Role of Psychosocial Counselling
- Understanding Motivation and Stages of Change
- Core components of CBT for addictions
- Role of 12 Step Recovery Programmes
- Understanding and supporting the recovery journey
- Managing one’s own expectations in working with persons with addictions
- Compassion based approach to addictions counselling
- Recognise subtle signs of co-occurring disorders
There will be case discussions and hands on activities to practice some of what has been covered in the training.
